Checks by our Correspondent in the ancient city revealed that many of the residents are going about their normal businesses, but with fewer number of vehicles on the roads.
It was also observed that although markets and shopping malls opened for business, some commercial banks have shut their banking halls, operating from inside.
Schools have also opened for the day as students and pupils were seen attending classes.
The State Police Command has already placed its personnel on red alert ahead of the protest, according to the
Commissioner of Police, Mr Hussaini Gumel.
Gumel said proactive security measures had already been adopted to ensure peaceful and orderly protest in all parts of the state.
He said the deployment was in recognition of the right to peaceful protest in line with the extant laws, as a fundamental right of citizens.
