After an initial postponement, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) will on Monday,  (Today),  unveil its National Campaign Council (NCC) ahead of the 2027 general election

The party in a statement by it’s National Publicly Secretary, Osa Director, said the party will also use the occasion to present   its financial accounts and certificates of return to candidates, during a scheduled National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja

The party said the campaign council would coordinate its campaigns across all elective positions, including the presidency, National Assembly, governorship and State Houses of Assembly.

It described the party’s financial disclosure as evidence of its commitment to accountability, adding  that the NDC challenged other  political parties, particularly the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), to make their financial records public.Access Services

The NDC statement further noted that the campaign council reflected the party’s commitment to an inclusive and innovative campaign strategy.

“As a party of innovation, our NCC is all-encompassing. It covers the Presidential, National Assembly, Governorship, and State Houses of Assembly Campaign Councils“This is in deference to our avowed commitment to the principles of transparency and accountability.

“We challenge other political parties, especially the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), to emulate this level of openness and transparency in the management of their finances.” the statement said

The NDC also disclosed that it had issued Expression of Interest forms free of charge to about 80 per cent of its candidates who could not afford the fees amid prevailing economic hardship.

The party blamed the situation on poverty, hunger and deprivation, which it attributed to what it described as the APC’s “rudderless” economic policies.

“Contrary to speculations in the public domain, and due to the level of poverty, hunger and deprivation in the country occasioned by the rudderless APC and its amorphous economic policies, about 80% of our candidates could not afford the Expression of Interest forms. The party had to issue forms to such candidates free of charge,” the statement said.Access Services

Reaffirming its readiness for the 2027 elections, the party declared that it was determined to offer Nigerians an alternative to the existing political order.

“For the NDC, it is no longer politics as usual. The NDC is turbo-charged and ready to give Nigerians the altruistic leadership the nation deserves.

“A new Nigeria is possible. We can do it!” NDC assured The NDC had earlier announced the constitution of its National Campaign Council, saying it would coordinate campaign activities nationwide and mobilise support for its candidates ahead of the 2027 elections.Under the arrangement, the party’s National Leader, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, will serve as chairman, while its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, will be co-chairman.The party’s National Chairman, Senator Cleopas Moses Zuwoghe, was named vice-chairman, while its vice-presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, will serve as co-vice-chairman.The NDC’s National Secretary, Barrister Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu, was named council secretary, while Mallam Ibrahim Hussain Abdulkarim will serve as director-general.

Israel could face second Haulocost, Netanyahu warns

Published

on

As Israelis return to the polls on Wednesday to elect their next leader, incumbent Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu has warned that voters could expose their families to a “second Holocaust” if they elect a leader unable to confront Iran
Netanyahu shared the message on Sunday alongside an AI-generated image depicting a nuclear explosion over Tel Aviv, amplifying concerns about Iran’s nuclear ambitions ahead of Tuesday’s vote.
The warning was originally written by Yuval Bloomberg, an Israeli right-wing  political commentator, who argued that Iran acquiring nuclear weapons would pose an existential threat to Israel.
“If the Iranians obtain nuclear weapons, nothing else will matter anymore,” the message read.
It added that voters who chose a leader incapable of completing the mission against Iran could condemn themselves and their families to “the danger of a second Holocaust”.
Bloomberg also argued that political controversies surrounding Netanyahu’s government, including the Qatargate affair and exemptions from military service for ultra-Orthodox Jews, were distracting Israelis from the Iranian threat
The message said Israel had a limited window to confront Iran while United States President Donald Trump remained in office, warning that future generations would not forgive the country if it missed the opportunity.
Netanyahu’s post drew criticism from opposition leaders, who accused him of using fear to influence voters ahead of the election.
Gadi Eisenkot, chairman of the Yashar party, accused the prime minister of resorting to scare tactics and threatening Israelis with mass destruction.
Democrats party chairman Yair Golan also criticised the post, saying Netanyahu was spreading panic ahead of the election.
The controversy comes as Iran’s nuclear programme remains a central issue in Israel’s security debate, with Netanyahu repeatedly presenting Tehran’s nuclear ambitions as an existential threat to the country.

‘We won’t allow repeat of 2023 defeat in Lagos’ – APC

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared that it would not allow a repeat of the party’s loss in the state, during the 2023 presidential election

Recall that president Bola Tinubu, who is an indigen and former governor of Lagos state, was defeated in the state by the then presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi. Obi way s however contesting for the 2027 presidential election on the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC)

The Lagos APC said it has set a target of nearly three million votes for President Bola Tinubu and the party’s 2027 governorship candidate, Kadri Obafemi Hamzat

The Director-General of the PBAT-KOH Campaign Council, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, disclosed this on Sunday at a press conference in Ikeja, Lagos, where he also announced plans for the unveiling of Hamzat’s governorship manifesto ahead of the 2027 election.

Obanikoro noted that the party had learnt important lessons from the 2023 election, when the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, defeated Tinubu in Lagos, securing 582,454 votes against the APC candidate’s 572,606 votes.

He described the outcome of the 2024 election in the state as a wake-up call, adding that the APC had since taken steps to strengthen its membership base and improve its mobilisation ahead of the next general election.

“That time (2023), I want to tell you, was a wake-up call for us, and we have woken up

“You know what it means to wake up a hungry tiger? It’s bad news. That’s exactly what the opposition has done. They have woken up a hungry tiger, and it is going to roar.

“For the first time in the history of our party, we registered about one million. Already, we have provided a solution by beefing up our membership

“So, in a worst-case scenario, let’s say 70 or 80 per cent of our members come out, which they will do. That is already 800,000 votes.

“Let’s assume they will bring a minimum of one voter. That is 1.6 million votes. No matter how much some of these opposition members hate us, there are APC lovers in this state of ours who, come rain or shine, will come out and vote for us. Modestly, we are looking at almost three million votes.”

Obanikoro said the campaign council would intensify grassroots mobilisation across the state to achieve the target.

“We will go throughout the length and breadth of Lagos State, all the nooks and crannies of Lagos. We will go there and canvass for votes,” he said.

“We are going to win and record an unprecedented number of votes for both Asiwaju and Dr Kadri Obafemi Hamzat.”

The campaign council also announced that the APC would unveil Hamzat’s manifesto on Friday, October 30, 2026, at the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts, formerly the National Arts Theatre, in Iganmu, Lagos. He said the manifesto would outline the governorship candidate’s vision, priorities and plans for the continued development of Lagos State.

Tinubu to opposition: You brought hunger, poverty in Nigeria

Published

By Our Reporter

President Bola Tinubu has accused opposition politicians and past administrations of contributing to Nigeria’s hunger and poverty, insisting that his government is taking steps to address the economic challenges confronting the country.

Tinubu made the remarks on Saturday at the flag-off of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign in Kaduna, where he defended his administration’s economic policies and urged Nigerians to support his bid for a second term in the January 2027 presidential election.

“ I hear my opponents talking about hunger and poverty. But who created these problems? They created them, and we are working to eradicate them,” he said.

The president maintained that his administration was laying the groundwork for economic growth, prosperity and improved opportunities, particularly for young Nigerians.

“We have prosperity, consistency, growth, recovery and opportunities for our people,” Tinubu said, dismissing criticisms from political opponents.

He called on Kaduna residents to renew their support for him, recalling their backing during the 2023 presidential election. He also urged them to vote for APC candidates seeking other elective positions in 2027.

“Your prosperity is here. Your future is in your hands. Your fingerprints on the ballot will determine it. Be careful and watch out for those who want to mislead you,” he said.

Tinubu also defended the removal of the petrol subsidy, describing the policy as necessary to curb corruption and eliminate economic leakages.

“What is past is past. Fuel subsidy is behind us. We are working towards ending corruption, falsification of invoices, dishonesty and the smuggling of goods,” he said.

He promised to sustain government programmes designed to improve the welfare and future prospects of young Nigerians.

The president also praised APC governors, saying they were implementing development initiatives and ensuring the regular payment of workers’ salaries.

Earlier, Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani called on residents to support Tinubu’s re-election, citing federal government interventions in infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture and security.

Sani said the Tinubu administration had delivered on important commitments made to the state during the 2023 campaign, particularly the reconstruction of the Kaduna-Birnin Gwari Road and efforts to improve security along the route.

He disclosed that N178 billion had been released for the rehabilitation of the 123-kilometre road, which he said had been neglected for more than 40 years.

“Today, you can travel to Birnin Gwari without a police escort. That is progress, Mr President, and we thank you for it,” he said.

The governor further stated that more than 300 schools and over 150 primary healthcare centres that had been closed because of insecurity had reopened.

He also disclosed that approval had been obtained for the proposed Kaduna metropolitan red-line rail project.

According to Sani, the North-West region received N84 billion through the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), with about 414,000 students benefiting from the intervention.

He argued that the projects and interventions demonstrated the importance of continuity in government and urged Kaduna voters to re-elect Tinubu and support other APC candidates in the 2027 elections.
