Following the judgement of the Federal High Court, sitting in Abuja, pronouncing Julius Abure as the authentic National Chairman of Labour Party , the presidential candidate of the party in the 2023 presidential election, Mr Peter Obi, has urged party faithful and Obidient movement to remain calm as the hierarchy of the party is still studying the out come of the court Judgement.
DISCLOSURE News had reported that the Federal High Court in Abuja, led by Justice Emeka Nwite, had on Tuesday, 8 October 2024, ruled in favor of Julius Abure as the legitimate Chairman of the Labour Party.
This ruling, comes after months of internal conflict within the party, affirming the leadership established at the March 2024 Nnewi convention.
The decision marked a significant victory for Abure’s faction, which has been embroiled in a leadership dispute following the 2023 general elections.
But Peter Obi, writing through his X handle on Wednesday, disclosed that Governor Alex Otti of Abia State and other top party executives are studying the out come of the court judgement.
According to him: ” Yesterday, Governor Alex Otti @alexottiofr and I, along with the Caretaker Chairman and Secretary of the Labour Party, convened to discuss and review recent developments, including the judgment delivered by an Abuja High Court on the same day.”
He I urged “all members of the Labour Party to remain calm and patient as we continue to engage in discussions and consultations, ” stating that ” Our goal is to emerge stronger and more unified, standing together as one united front.”
He noted that they should “not allow this to divert us from addressing the pressing issues affecting our people today,” adding that ” we have always known that the task of creating a new Nigeria that is possible will not come without challenges.”
The Labour Party’s internal strife reached a breaking point in May 2023 when the Federal Capital Territory High Court issued an injunction preventing Abure, National Secretary Farouk Ibrahim, and other national officers from presenting themselves as party leaders.
The crisis deepened after Abure was suspended by the Edo State chapter of the Labour Party, adding another layer of complexity to the party’s leadership struggles.
