The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced scheduled power outages in parts of Abuja this weekend due to maintenance activities at two transmission substations.
In a statement issued on Saturday by Ndidi Mbah, TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, the company disclosed that maintenance would take place between Saturday and Sunday to enhance the performance of its power equipment.
The statement explained that engineers would work on a 60MVA power transformer and its associated switchgear at the Gwagwalada 330/132/33kV Transmission Substation on Saturday, December 28, 2024.
This operation, scheduled from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., will temporarily disrupt power supply in Gwagwalada and surrounding areas.
According to the statement, “During this period, Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (Abuja DisCo) will not be able to supply electricity to customers in Gwagwalada and its environs for four hours only.”
Additionally, TCN stated that maintenance at the Kukwaba 132/33kV Transmission Substation would take place on Sunday, December 29, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. This work on another 60MVA power transformer will result in power interruptions in areas including Wuye, EFCC, Federal Medical Centre, Coca-Cola, Idu Railway Station, Citec, and Life Camp.
“Also, on Sunday, December 29, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., maintenance work will be carried out on one of the 60MVA power transformers at the Kukwaba 132/33kV Transmission Substation. This will result in power interruption in Wuye, EFCC, Federal Medical Centre, Coca-Cola, Idu Railway Station, Citec, and Life Camp,” the statement added.
The company extended its apologies for the inconvenience the power outages may cause during the festive season, emphasizing the importance of the maintenance.
“TCN apologises for the inconvenience this may cause, especially during the end-of-year and yuletide season. However, it is important that maintenance is carried out as scheduled for the optimal performance of power equipment,” it said.
Earlier in December, TCN had postponed planned maintenance on a 150MVA transformer at the Gwagwalada substation following complaints of inadequate power supply in Abuja. The work was originally set for mid-December
