In a major boost for aviation in northern Nigeria, the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Airport in Minna, Niger State, has officially been designated as the alternative airport to the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
The announcement was made by Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, during the inaugural flight ceremony of Overland Airways from the newly revamped Minna airport.
Keyamo praised the airport’s infrastructure, highlighting its impressive runway, modern ambience, and strategic location, which he said meet global standards for international aviation.
“The runway is an international runway; a 747 and a tripple 7 can use this runway. Why over the years this has been underutilised is still a puzzle.
“Our eyes are on this airport. By the powers conferred in me, I declare Minna airport as the alternative to Abuja Airport. NCA, FAAN, take note,” he stated.
