A former staff of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, Nze Augustine Agu has called on the Government, civil society organizations and concerned individuals to come to his rescue as he alleged that he has been rendered homeless following the vandalisation of his house by the dreaded Ebubeagu militia and police operatives.
Agu who spoke to our correspondent in an exclusive chat at the weekend took our correspondent round his compound and showed him the devastation and vandalism done to his residence when the security agents swooped on his family house on 20th Feb, 2024.
Narrating his ordeal, Nze Agu, a community leader in Obiangwu Autonomous Community,Owerri Zone disclosed that a team of fierce-looking and heavily armed security operatives stormed his house.
He stated that the rampaging team broke all doors, aluminum windows, roof of his main building, his wife’s shop and kitchen line, destroyed two overhead water tanks and pipes as well as smashed his Pathfinder Jeep, parked in the compound.
The 66year old retiree further hinted that the operatives arrested and whisked away his sick wife, two young daughters, daughter in-law and a 14months old grandson after beating them mercilessly.
He added that the trigger-happy operatives who reportedly shot sporadically during the raid also broke into his personal room and others and made away with money, smashed four TV sets and other valuables they could lay hand on.
Agu who said that he was not at home during the operation pointed out that his wife and two daughters have been in police custody together with his daughter in-law and her baby under inhuman conditions.
He added that he has not been able to secure their bail from police detention despite his efforts.
Fielding questions from our correspondent, Nze Agu disclosed that the security agents had struck allegedly in search of his only son(name withheld) for his purported association with the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.
His words, “That fateful day, I had no premonition of any harm befalling my family and I left home to visit a friend at Mbaise. On getting back home in the evening, I discovered that my house has been ransacked and my wife and children taken away by the security agents.
“I was told, they came looking for my first son. My son, had not visited home for over one year even after his wife delivered a baby. I was told that some boys from Umuopara Village of Obiangwu arrested by police mentioned my son as a member of IPOB and the police came after him that day.
“They(security men) vandalized my house, my wife’s shop and carted away cash , crates of beer, malt and minerals just as they broke many bottles of drinks . Presently I am left with nothing.
“I am a pensioner and not a criminal. I built my house and own everything they destroyed. All I laboured for over the years brought to ruins in a matter of hours.
“I need help and justice. Government and well- meaning Nigerians should come to my aid and rescue me urgently. I have been struggling so hard to manage the trauma but it’s not easy.
Nze Agu further gave details of a similar arrest at the residence of Late Mr Sylvanus Obiajunwa where one Mrs Christian Obiajunwa was physically assaulted and prays the aged woman survives the brutality of the security agents.
Agu lamented the brutality his family has been subjected to and calls for help and the release of his family members as he reiterated that he is now homeless.
