Ahead of Osun State Governorship election, the state governor who is also the Accord governorship candidate, Ademola Adeleke, has called on residents to vote against the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the August 15 governorship election.

This is as Governor Adeleke alleged that the opposition neglected civil servants during its period in office.

In a statement shared on his X account on Thursday, Adeleke urged eligible voters to support his re-election bid, adding that the state should not return to what he described as an era of hardship for public workers.

The governor alleged that civil servants experienced severe economic difficulties under the previous APC administration, claiming many struggled to provide for their families due to the payment of half salaries.

“We will not allow APC to take Osun back to the days when civil servants had to beg their neighbours for food.

“Those who once weaponised poverty by paying workers half salaries, leaving civil servants to struggle to feed their families, and denying our people access to basic necessities are desperate to return to inflict more pain. We must never go back to those dark days,” he said.

Governor Adeleke appealed to voters to participate in the August 15 poll, urging them to endorse what he described as the path of progress and good governance through the Accord Party.

“On August 15, I urge every eligible voter to send a clear and resounding message that Osun has chosen the path of progress, compassion, and good governance. Together, we will protect the mandate of the people and keep Osun moving forward,” he stated.

In a separate message, the governor defended his administration’s record on workers’ welfare, maintaining that improving the wellbeing of civil servants had remained one of his government’s priorities since assuming office.

According to Adeleke, “APC’s disdain for civil servants is well known in Osun State. Since I became governor, I have made the welfare of our workers and the people of Osun State a top priority.”

He also referred to the recent freezing of the Osun State Government’s accounts, expressing confidence that the development would strengthen public resolve ahead of the governorship election.

“The unjust freezing of state accounts will only strengthen the resolve of our people to do everything necessary to ensure Osun never returns to the era of darkness.

“The choice is clear: progress over regression, good governance over neglect. Accord over APC,” the governor added.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially published the list of qualified candidates for the forthcoming general elections, in strict compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2022 as amended.  

The publication has brought finality to all speculations and has formally authenticated Dame Princess Esom-Nwafor Orizu as the candidate of the  All Progressives Congress (APC) for the  Nnewi North, Nnewi South, and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency.

With INEC’s release, all doubts and misinformation regarding the authentic APC candidate for the federal constituency have been conclusively laid to rest. The Commission’s list serves as the sole legal and constitutional basis for participation in the forthcoming elections.

Stakeholders described the publication as a victory for due process and internal democracy within the APC.

APC Anambra State has urged party faithful and supporters to embrace the spirit of sportsmanship and unity as the party proceeds to the campaign stage on August 19th.

The party cautioned individuals and groups engaged in deceptive publications and divisive rhetoric to desist, noting that such actions are inimical to the peace and cohesion of the party.

APC Anambra remains one indivisible family,  a party statement read.

 “We must not allow materialistic interests or selfish cabals to truncate the peaceful coexistence and progress we have built in our great party.”

Party leaders, stakeholders, and members across Nnewi North, Nnewi South, and Ekwusigo have extended hearty congratulations to Dame Princess Esom-Nwafor Orizu on her emergence and confirmation as the APC candidate.

They expressed confidence in her capacity, pedigree, and commitment to delivering quality representation and attracting democratic dividends to the federal constituency.

Dame Princess ESOM-NWAFOR ORIZU reaffirmed her commitment to an issue-based campaign focused on development, security, and the welfare of the people of Nnewi North, Nnewi South, and Ekwusigo.

A former National Legal Adviser of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Babatunde Ogala, on Thursday insisted that President Bola Tinubu is qualified to run for the presidency in 2027.

Ogala said Tinubu is qualified by virtue of his age and the fact that he is a Nigerian.

He made this known on Channels Television’s Politics Today while reacting to the controversy surrounding Tinubu’s qualifications.

Tinubu did not submit his primary and secondary school certificates to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

This has led to widespread controversy among Nigerians.

However, Ogala said: “What does the Constitution say about qualification for office? Because I hear things like: Who are his parents? Who is his father? Who is his mother? Who is his sister? And who is his brother?

“Is he a Nigerian? The answer is yes, unless otherwise proven or determined through a judicial process. Is Tinubu qualified to run for the presidency age-wise? The answer is yes, by constitutional provisions.

“Does he have the minimum educational qualification as prescribed by the Constitution, which says educated up to School Certificate level, interpreted to mean Primary Six and the ability to read and write?

“The man says, ‘I have a degree.’ Babatunde Ogala is sitting here. I’m a Senior Advocate, and you are asking me to prove if I’m a lawyer. You want to know which primary and secondary schools I attended, where I did my A-Levels, and all of that.”
