Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi has asked the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), to make his records available for public examination upon any legitimate request.

Recall that a former National Publicly Secretary of the Labour Party (LP), Abayomi Arabambi, had dragged both the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the UNN to court, seeking the release of details of Obi credentials

Arabambi also listed the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and the West African Examination Council (WAEC) in his legal battle to seek the release and public scrutiny of Obi’s academic credentials

Arabambi filed three separate suits before a Federal High Court in Abuja, alleging that Obi’s name appeared differently on documents submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and educational authorities.

Reacting to his claims, Obi, in a post on X on Tuesday, said he was prepared to face the level of scrutiny expected of anyone seeking the highest political office in Nigeria.

The former governor of Anambra state said he had no objection to the release of his academic records.

“I respectfully request that the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, within the limits permitted by law, make available, upon legitimate request, my academic certificates, records, and other official documents relating to my admission and studies at the University,” he wrote.

Obi further directed other institutions he attended within and outside Nigeria to release his records in “accordance with applicable laws and procedures, ” noting that he believes in transparency and accountability, especially for individuals seeking public office.

“As a presidential candidate seeking the trust of Nigerians, I welcome legitimate public interest in my background, qualifications, and record,” he said.

“Those who seek to lead must be willing to demonstrate, through both their words and actions, that they have nothing to conceal from the people they aspire to serve.”

Obi also urged other presidential candidates to make their educational qualifications and relevant records available for public scrutiny.

“Doing so should not be regarded as an inconvenience or an attack, but as an opportunity to strengthen public confidence, promote accountability, and rebuild the trust of Nigerians in those who seek to govern them.

“If we desire a Nigeria founded on transparency, integrity, accountability, and respect for institutions, those values must begin with those who seek to lead it,” he said

NAF aircraft crash: ADC demands probe of N4.5billion defence maintenance budget

Published

By Tony Chuddy

The opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC) has blamed poor implementation  and utilisation of the N4.4 billion defence maintenance before dget to the series of military plane crashes that have taken the live of several young Nigerian officers

The party ina statement by it’s National Publicly Secretary, Bolaji Abdullah, expressed sadness over Monday’s crash of a Nigerian Air Force (ATR-42) aircraft in Igbokoda, Ondo State.

The party therefore called for an audit of the “non-implementation of defence budgets needed for the regular maintenance of aircraft in service with the Nigerian Air Force.”

The ADC said the incident, which he described as “tragic and unfortunate”, highlights the poor funding of defence budgets in the country.

“While we do not intend to prejudice ongoing investigations into the cause of this tragic crash, we believe that this sad moment also provides an opportunity to raise, yet again, questions about the non-implementation of the defence budget and the perennial neglect of military equipment,” the statement read.

The opposition party recalled that the federal government had in 2025,  released the sum of N4.5 billion, representing only about 13.98 per cent of the N34.71 billion budgeted for the maintenance of Nigerian Air Force aircraft.

The statement noted that the released sum, “stood in sharp contrast to the N20.74 billion allocated for the maintenance of the Presidential Air Fleet, of which N20.27 billion had been released over the same period, representing 97.76 per cent.

“Put simply, while the fleet that serves a handful of people in power got almost every kobo it asked for, the fleet that serves and protects 200 million Nigerians was left with crumbs,” ADC said.

While insisting that the safety of the President matters, ADC said what also matters is the safety of the pilots and airmen who put their lives on the line in defence of the country.

“Patriotism does not replace spare parts, and condolence messages do not take the place of accountability,” the party added.

The party therefore demanded investigations into the cause of the crash and a thorough probe of the maintenance of defence equipment, especially the Nigerian Air Force fleet.
