How Wike almost cost APC 2023 presidency, South east leaders reveal

**”Back progressive governors rejection of FCT minister’s rainbow coalition

By Emma Okoronkwo (Owerri)

The All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership in the five states of the South-east has revealed alleged that mutilated and sloppy result sheet submitted by former governor and minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike could have caused the loss both of the 2023 presidential election by the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the election tribunal

The South east APC leaders who backed the position of the party’s Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) to reject Wike’s rainbow coalition accross the zone, said it will support all APC candidates in the 2027 general elections.

The party leaders, in a statement jointly signed by APC National Vice Chairman, South-East, Dr Ijeomah Arodiogbu, and the party chairmen in Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo states, rejected the ‘Rainbow Coalition’ led by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

Describing the FCY minister coalition  as ‘Chameleon coalition’ the leaders said the PGF’s call for support for only APC candidates from the Presidency to the state Houses of Assembly was aimed at securing a comprehensive victory for the party in 2027.

The leaders, who condemned the former governor’s recent attack at members of the PGF, described the comments as “most unfortunate, reprehensible and completely unacceptable.”

They remarked that Wike despite all his G5 boast in 2023, could not deliver their states of control for the APC and president Bola Tinubub, alleging that the minister’s mishandling of Rivers state results sheet could have cost the party victory at the election tribunal

The South-East APC leaders, regretted that Wike’s criticisms were directed at governors “who have delivered significant development in their states and secured more than 25 per cent of the presidential vote in their respective states in the 2023 election.”

“Progressive Governors are not abstract politicians; they are performing leaders whose records speak for themselves,” the statement said, stressing that the governors were independently elected leaders who deserved respect.”

The leaders further accused Wike of attempting to influence the political fortunes of sitting APC governors ahead of the 2027 elections, insisting that no minister should assume authority over elected governors.

“The same Wike who could not deliver his G5 allies in Enugu, Abia and Benue States, but failed woefully, is insulting Progressive Governors. It is on record that Wike’s presentation of sloppy result sheets was strong evidence that almost cost the President’s victory in court.

“It is more troubling that Wike’s growing tendency to insult, diminish and plot to remove sitting Progressive Governors in 2027 is increasing each day,” the statement said.

They urged the FCT minister to withdraw his attacks on the governors and return to “party discipline, mutual respect and collective responsibility.”

The APC South-East leadership also rejected what it described as the “rainbow (chameleon) coalition” in the region, warning that the party would resist attempts to undermine its structures.

“We in the South East stand solidly with all Progressive Governors and candidates of our party at all levels in the forthcoming 2027 elections,” the statement said.

The leaders declared that the APC was “bigger than any individual” and called on members to support the party’s candidates from President Bola Tinubu to the State Houses of Assembly in the 2027 elections.

NAF aircraft crash: ADC demands probe of N4.5billion defence maintenance budget

Published

By Tony Chuddy

The opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC) has blamed poor implementation  and utilisation of the N4.4 billion defence maintenance before dget to the series of military plane crashes that have taken the live of several young Nigerian officers

The party ina statement by it’s National Publicly Secretary, Bolaji Abdullah, expressed sadness over Monday’s crash of a Nigerian Air Force (ATR-42) aircraft in Igbokoda, Ondo State.

The party therefore called for an audit of the “non-implementation of defence budgets needed for the regular maintenance of aircraft in service with the Nigerian Air Force.”

The ADC said the incident, which he described as “tragic and unfortunate”, highlights the poor funding of defence budgets in the country.

“While we do not intend to prejudice ongoing investigations into the cause of this tragic crash, we believe that this sad moment also provides an opportunity to raise, yet again, questions about the non-implementation of the defence budget and the perennial neglect of military equipment,” the statement read.

The opposition party recalled that the federal government had in 2025,  released the sum of N4.5 billion, representing only about 13.98 per cent of the N34.71 billion budgeted for the maintenance of Nigerian Air Force aircraft.

The statement noted that the released sum, “stood in sharp contrast to the N20.74 billion allocated for the maintenance of the Presidential Air Fleet, of which N20.27 billion had been released over the same period, representing 97.76 per cent.

“Put simply, while the fleet that serves a handful of people in power got almost every kobo it asked for, the fleet that serves and protects 200 million Nigerians was left with crumbs,” ADC said.

While insisting that the safety of the President matters, ADC said what also matters is the safety of the pilots and airmen who put their lives on the line in defence of the country.

“Patriotism does not replace spare parts, and condolence messages do not take the place of accountability,” the party added.

The party therefore demanded investigations into the cause of the crash and a thorough probe of the maintenance of defence equipment, especially the Nigerian Air Force fleet.
