2027: Okpebholo deceiving Tinubu with 2.5m votes promise- Imansuagbon

A prominent chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Barrister Kenneth Imansuagbon, at the weekend said Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, is deceiving President Bola Ahmed Tinubu with the promise of delivering 2.5 million votes for him in the 2027 presidential election, insisting that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) would suffer defeat in the state.

Imansuagbon, a former governorship aspirant, said the ADC was confident of defeating the APC in Edo State, particularly in Edo Central Senatorial District, because, according to him, the electorate had become dissatisfied with the performance of the APC-led governments.

He spoke at an enlarged ADC senatorial meeting in Ewohimi, Esan South-East Local Government Area, where candidates for the State and National Assembly elections in the district were unveiled.

Representing the party’s national leader and former Edo State Governor, Professor Oserheimen Osunbor, Imansuaghon declared: “We want President Tinubu to know that Okpebholo is deceiving him. The 2.5 million votes promised Tinubu is not feasible. Okpebholo will be defeated because the people are with us. Nobody can rig our election.”

He attributed the growing support for the ADC to what he described as the failure of the APC administration to address insecurity, hardship and poor infrastructure, arguing that Nigerians were yearning for a change of government.

“The ADC will win the 2027 election, and Atiku Abubakar will be the next President because the APC has failed Nigerians. People are tired of the suffering in the land, tired of poor road infrastructure and tired of insecurity,” he said.

Recounting his experience on the journey from Benin City to his Ewohimi community, he added: “It took me over five hours to travel from Benin to my village, a journey that used to take just 45 minutes under the PDP administration.”

The ADC chieftain, who described former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as the most prepared presidential candidate for the 2027 election, said the former Vice President was better positioned to rescue the country from its present challenges.

“Atiku Abubakar is the most prepared candidate for the presidency and is ready to rescue Nigerians and give hope to the people. He will return Nigeria to its lost glory. The man who can deliver the goods is Atiku and Amaechi,”.

He also urged Edo voters to reject the APC, insisting that the large turnout at the meeting reflected growing dissatisfaction with the ruling party.

On the controversy surrounding the viral video in which Edo APC chairman, Jarrett Tenebe, reportedly made remarks referencing AK-47 rifles, Imansuagbon said the ADC was not intimidated by threats, stressing that the party would rely on voters’ support and their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to challenge the ruling party.

“What we have is not guns. They have said they have AK-47, but we have the people and our PVCs. If they think they can rig the election, they are living in a fool’s paradise. Nigerians will be ready to defend democracy and protect their votes,” he said.

Also speaking, Edo State ADC Chairman, Tony Alile, assured party supporters that no individual could discourage eligible voters from exercising their constitutional rights, while calling on security agencies to examine the reported AK-47 remarks.

“Nobody can discourage or stop voters from coming out to exercise their franchise. It is their civic responsibility. It is not in our Constitution that a private citizen can brandish a machine gun, which he mentioned as AK-47. I believe I am not the only person who saw that video. The law enforcement agencies have also seen it, and at the appropriate time, they will invite him for questioning,” Alile said.

Alile, however, maintained that the ADC was prepared to confront the APC politically through the ballot, describing the PVC as a more powerful weapon than any firearm.

“I want to assure the good people of Edo State that the weapon ADC has is 200 times bigger and smarter than the AK-47 the other man mentioned, and that weapon is called the PVC. If you are tired of hunger and suffering in the land, I don’t need to tell you to use your PVC as your weapon against this government that has no heart,” he stated.

He urged party leaders across the wards and local government areas to intensify grassroots mobilisation, saying all hands must be on deck to defeat the APC in 2027.

The meeting also witnessed the formal unveiling of ADC candidates for the 2027 general election and the defection of members of the APC, New Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) into the ADC.

The defectors were received by Alile, who called for unity and commitment among members as the party intensifies its mobilisation ahead of the elections.

Party leaders at the meeting included Hon. Sylvester Ewanehi, Hon. Braimoh, Chief Emmanuel Ihiahi, Stella Ali, ADC Edo Central Senatorial candidate, Hon. Herberta Okonofua, and Engr. Barnabas Odion.

*** Urges people experiencing symptoms associated with Ebola to seek immediate medical attention

By our reporter

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has ruled out Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in two individuals suspected of having the infection in Yola, Adamawa State, after two rounds of laboratory testing returned negative results.

Jide Idris, NCDC Director-General, who disclosed this in a statement, added that there is currently no laboratory-confirmed Ebola case in Adamawa.

The suspected cases were reported to the Adamawa State Public Health Emergency Operations Centre in the early hours of October 30, 2026, after two individuals presented with symptoms requiring further investigation.

According to Idris, the individuals were isolated and appropriate public health measures initiated while samples were collected for laboratory analysis.

“Fortunately, the samples turned out negative for EVD after two rounds of testing,” he said.

Idris said the NCDC was working closely with the Adamawa State Government, through the State Ministry of Health and Human Services, to investigate the report and strengthen response operations.

He commended the state government for its prompt response, particularly the efforts of the Commissioner for Health and his team.

“At this juncture, I wish to commend the efforts of the Adamawa State’s Commissioner for Health and his team for their proactive approach,” the NCDC director-general said.

He added that the agency would continue to provide technical support to the state government to strengthen its response and ensure effective monitoring of the situation.

Idris clarified that the index case previously confirmed in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) remained the only laboratory-confirmed Ebola case reported in Nigeria.

He urged Nigerians to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information or speculation about the suspected cases.

“We urge members of the public to remain calm and avoid sharing unverified information or speculation about the situation,” he said, advising the public to rely on official government and public health communication channels for accurate information.

The NCDC boss also urged people experiencing symptoms associated with Ebola, including fever, severe weakness, headache, muscle pain, vomiting, diarrhoea or unexplained bleeding, to seek immediate medical attention, particularly if they had a relevant exposure history.

He advised individuals to inform healthcare workers about any relevant travel or contact history, avoid self-medication and follow professional medical advice.

Ebola Virus Disease is a serious infectious disease that requires early detection, prompt clinical management and effective infection prevention and control measures.

Idris said the NCDC, in collaboration with the Adamawa State Government and other relevant stakeholders, would continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as verified information became available.

He reaffirmed the commitment of public health authorities to protecting Nigerians through early detection, evidence-based interventions, transparent communication and a coordinated national response.

Several supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) were reportedly injured on Saturday when suspected hoodlums attacked members of the party in Yankara town, Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State, during activities surrounding Governor Dikko Umaru Radda’s campaign rally.

The violence also led to the burning of a vehicle belonging to the Musa Adamu Network (MAN), while movement along a major road was disrupted, triggering panic among residents.

Eyewitnesses alleged that the attackers ambushed APC supporters travelling to attend the governor’s campaign rally in Faskari.

One of the witnesses claimed that some youths had barricaded the road expected to be used by the campaign convoy. The witness further alleged that two APC supporters sustained fatal injuries during the confrontation.

However, the claim of fatalities had not been independently verified as of Saturday night, while the police had yet to issue an official statement on the incident as of 9:10 p.m.

The Caucus Chairman of the Musa Adamu Network, Alhaji Nura Sule Yandaki, said he was travelling with 11 members of his team to participate in the governor’s rally when the violence erupted.

Yandaki explained that the situation reportedly deteriorated during a Maulud procession organised by another Islamic group, with suspected hoodlums allegedly exploiting the gathering to attack vehicles conveying passengers, including APC supporters.

He also confirmed that a vehicle belonging to his organisation was set ablaze during the incident.

Condemning the attack, the Secretary of the Musa Adamu Network, Shamsuddeen Sani Lema, urged security agencies to investigate the incident, apprehend those responsible and ensure they face prosecution.

Lema described the violence as unacceptable, insisting that political engagements should not be characterised by intimidation, attacks or other forms of violence.

He also called on the justice system to strengthen mechanisms for preventing similar incidents across the country.

Despite the reported attack, Radda went ahead with the Tinubu-Dikko 2027 Campaign Rally in Faskari, where he highlighted his administration’s interventions in healthcare, security, education and infrastructure.

At the gathering, the governor announced the completion and opening of the Faskari General Hospital, describing the development as the fulfilment of a campaign commitment to residents.

“During our previous campaign visit, we promised not to forget the hospital in Faskari. Today, by the grace of Almighty Allah, we have fulfilled that promise by opening the hospital for our people,” Radda said.

He further listed ongoing government projects covering road construction, renovation of schools, improvement of healthcare services and security operations.

According to him, the initiatives were aimed at consolidating peace and creating a conducive atmosphere for businesses and other economic activities to thrive.

Radda also pledged to sustain transparency, promote agricultural development and strengthen community-based governance, assuring residents that qualified indigenes of Faskari would continue to have opportunities to contribute to the state’s development.

Earlier, the Director-General of the Tinubu-Dikko 2027 Campaign Council, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, expressed satisfaction with the turnout at the rally.

Dangiwa praised the economic reforms of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and highlighted what he described as the achievements of the Radda administration in security, healthcare, education and human capital development.

He urged APC members, particularly youths and women, to intensify mobilisation at the grassroots ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Similarly, the Katsina State APC Chairman, Bishir Saulawa, assured party supporters that the APC would conduct a peaceful and issue-based campaign, focusing on its achievements rather than personal attacks or divisive rhetoric.

A Nigerian soldier, operating undercover and disguised as a ransom courier, has outsmarted a suspected kidnapper by delivering the ₦200,000 allegedly demanded from a female victim before arresting him in a coordinated sting operation.

The suspect, identified as Mukaila Iliyasu, was arrested while receiving the money during an intelligence-led operation conducted by troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force Operation WHIRL STROKE, in collaboration with operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS).

The operation also led to the recovery of the ₦200,000 allegedly demanded by the suspect, who had reportedly threatened to abduct the female victim if she failed to meet his demand.

In a statement issued at the weekend, the Acting Media Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force Operation WHIRL STROKE, Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu Zubairu, said the operation followed intelligence provided by DSS operatives.

According to the statement, the DSS alerted troops on October 29, 2026, to an incident involving an adult female resident who was allegedly threatened by Iliyasu.

The suspect was said to have demanded ₦200,000 from the woman, threatening to abduct her if she failed to pay the money.

Following the report, troops and DSS operatives coordinated an anti-kidnapping operation to apprehend him.

The statement said a soldier, acting in disguise, posed as the person delivering the demanded ransom and successfully handed the money to the suspect, who was arrested while receiving it.

It added that the suspect was subsequently handed over to the DSS for further investigation and possible prosecution.

“The operation was successfully conducted with precision and professionalism,” the statement said.

The Force Commander, Joint Task Force Operation WHIRL STROKE and General Officer Commanding 5 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Moses Kolo Gara, commended the troops and DSS operatives for their professionalism, gallantry and effective inter-agency collaboration.

Gara urged the security personnel to sustain their intelligence-sharing framework and operational cooperation to strengthen efforts against kidnapping and other security threats within the Joint Operations Area.
