Oyo APC exudes victory confidence in 2027 guber, says reconciliation yielding fruits

Our Reporter

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has disclosed that the electoral victory of its candidates in the 2027 general elections was certain and non-negotiable, as indications emerged on Monday that various reconciliation efforts being made by the leadership of the party have begun to yield positive results.

“What political watchers described as icing on the cake of reconciliation was experienced on Monday, when former Senate Leader and the governorship candidate of the APC in the 2023 poll, Senator Teslim Folarin, broke his silence and directed his supporters to join him in working with other stakeholders to deliver Oyo State to the APC in 2027,” the party said.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday and made available to journalists in Ibadan by its Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, the Oyo APC attributed the success of its efforts to achieve total reconciliation among party stakeholders to the commitment, passion and thoughtfulness of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu “who has, again, brought his unique leadership competence, character and experience to bear on calming all the frayed nerves in our great party.

“Our eyes have been on the ball, as our main goal is about winning, at least, a million votes for President Tinubu in the January poll and also making sure that all the candidates of APC are returned elected in the 2027 general elections.

“Fortunately, our chances just got better with the attainment of a high level of success in our desire to bring about total unity and peace to the progressive family in the Pacesetters State.

“Having acknowledged the inevitability of post-primary crisis, we moved ahead of time to float different committees of notable stakeholders and credible persons to drive our reconciliation campaign and we were able to get the desired results.

“But the best results were achieved through the intervention of our national leader, President Bola Tinubu, who has been able to wade in and convince some aggrieved gladiators on the need to bury the hatchet and work for APC success at the polls.

“With the like of Senators Teslim Folarin, Abdulfatai Buhari; and Chief Adebayo Adelabu fully on board, we are good to go, as our total victory is assured this time.

“Nevertheless, we are not going to rest on our oars in our quest to have everyone on board. The reconciliation efforts shall continue, even as our candidates continue to engage the electorate and sell the Renewed Hope Agenda as well as the Oyo AHEAD Project of Senator Sarafadeen Alli to the citizenry.”

ENDSARS: Six years after, we failed to learn our lessons, Baba-Ahmed blasts FG

Published

The national chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party, PRP, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has said six years after the #EndSARS protest, Nigeria has failed to learn lessons from the event.

Baba-Ahmed, who spoke on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday, said the issues that forced young Nigerians to the streets in 2020 are still present.

He said the disbandment of SARS was not enough as police brutality, lack of accountability and bad governance have continued.

According to him, the judicial panels set up after the protest raised hope but their recommendations were not fully implemented.

He said the fact that police still fired tear gas at youths marking the 6th anniversary at Lekki Toll Gate today shows that nothing has changed.

“We have not shown our young people that protesting for good governance is not a crime. Until justice is served for those who died at Lekki and compensation is paid, the wound will remain,” he said.

Group accuses Edo govt of political vendetta over arrest, arraignment of nonagenarian

Our Reporter

The Peoples’ Assembly for Good Governance (PAGG) has condemned what it described as intimidation of the opposition by the Edo State Government using state apparatus.

The condemnation followed the arraignment of the father of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for Edo South Senatorial District in the 2027 general elections, Hon.Matthew Iduoriyekemwen, over alleged trumped-up charges.

It will be recalled that the 90-year-old, Pa Joseph Iduoriyekemwen, was arrested by armed policemen from the Edo State Police Command at about 4 a.m. from his residence in Amagba, a suburb of Benin City, on Tuesday, October 6, 2026.

The nonagenarian was arraigned alongside three others at the Edo State Special Criminal Court on Monday, October 19, 2026, on allegations of cultism, conspiracy, attempted murder and land dispute. They were admitted to bail in the sum of ₦1 million each.

Reacting to the development, PAGG, in a statement jointly signed by its National Chairman, Dr. Samson Isibor, and National Secretary, Hon. Chukwuemeka Nkama, described the arrest and arraignment as an attempt to muzzle the opposition ahead of the elections.

“We condemn in the strongest terms the arrest and arraignment of Pa Iduoriyekemwen over alleged cultism, attempted murder and other false charges by policemen who invaded his residence in commando style, at a time when he was supposed to be enjoying his sleep.

“How could they allege that a 90-year-old great-grandfather is a cultist? How on earth could they have charged him to a Special Court that is not known to our Constitution?

“The arraignment by the police is nothing but the hand of Esau and the voice of Jacob. We make bold to say that the real target of the whole incident is the ADC senatorial candidate, Matthew Iduoriyekemwen, with the

” the group said.

The Group warned that no amount of intimidation and victimization will suppress the voice of opposition in the state, adding that the people are ready to do the needful.

“This present government in Edo state is very intolerant to the opposition, whereas opposition in whatever form is the beauty of democracy.

“Let it be known that the good people of Edo can see the deceit of the current government and the pain it is inflicting on them. They know what to do and are ready to vote out bad governance, come 2027”, it added.

“We, therefore, call on Governor Monday Okpebholo to order the immediate withdrawal of the case against Pa Iduoriyemkewen in the interest of peace, remembering that Hon Iduoriyekme has served this state meritorious,” Isibor posited.
