Published

on

Dr Kassim Mohammed-Kassim, Executive Chairman, Nasarawa State Universal Basic Education Board (NSUBEB), has empowered 75 vulnerable persons with N18.75 million.

Each beneficiary from Nasarawa North Senatorial District received N250,000 to establish or expand small businesses and improve their livelihoods.

Mohammed-Kassim disclosed this on Sunday during the flag-off of the distribution exercise in Akwanga Local Government Area (LGA).

He said the initiative was designed as business support for beneficiaries to establish new ventures or strengthen existing businesses.

The beneficiaries were selected across the 35 electoral wards in Akwanga, Nasarawa-Eggon and Wamba LGAs.

“I do not know any of the beneficiaries personally, and this is not because of any election,” Mohammed-Kassim said.

He explained that the selection process was not conducted along political party lines, but focused on supporting less privileged members of society.

“It is designed to provide direct support to the less privileged members of the society to start up a business,” he said.

He added that the funds would also enable beneficiaries to strengthen existing businesses and cushion the prevailing economic challenges.

Mohammed-Kassim urged beneficiaries to invest the money wisely, grow their businesses and create greater prosperity for their families.

Flagging off the distribution, Gov. Abdullahi Sule said the intervention would strengthen small businesses and improve traders’ access to capital.

Sule said the initiative would also stimulate grassroots economic growth across Nasarawa North Senatorial District.

The governor commended Mohammed-Kassim for giving back to society and urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the funds.

Sule advised the beneficiaries to ensure the money was invested strictly for the purpose for which it was provided.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Usman Mohammed, Peter Joe and Ahmed Yusuf appreciated Mohammed-Kassim for remembering vulnerable members of the society.

They prayed for continued blessings and rewards for the donor for supporting the downtrodden.

The beneficiaries also pledged to use the funds responsibly and for the businesses they were intended to support. (NAN).
