A hotel in Anambra State, known as Udoka Golden Point Hotel and Suites (popularly called “La Cruise Hotel”), located along the Onitsha-Owerri Road, has been demolished after it was identified as a hub for criminal activities, including kidnapping.
The operation was carried out by the state’s security outfit, codenamed Agunechemba, under “Operation Udo Ga-Achi.”
The Anambra State New Media, in a statement shared on X late Saturday, revealed that investigators found over 30 graves, a shrine, and live ammunition on the top floor of the two-storey building.
The Chief Press Secretary to Governor Chukwuma Soludo, Christian Aburime, confirmed the demolition and detailed the findings. “The hotel was destroyed because investigations led us to discover it was being used as a kidnappers’ den. Graves, army uniforms, live cartridges, and other incriminating items were found,” he stated.
According to Aburime, the community had long suspected illicit activities at the hotel. “Residents had been hearing gunshots at night and were afraid to report for fear of being exposed,” he added.
A video of the operation, reviewed by reporters, captured the leader of the security team describing the chilling discoveries. “They had a shrine here, along with live cartridges and ammunition. A pot containing blood was recovered and is now at the SARS Office in Awkuzu. Feathers and other ritual items were also found. On the top floor, graves for over 30 individuals were carefully partitioned,” he explained.
The demolition is part of a broader security crackdown under the newly implemented Homeland Security Law of 2025. Aburime stated that more buildings linked to criminal activities would face similar action. “This decisive approach is already yielding results, and we are determined to rid Anambra State of criminals,” he said.
The state government has warned that any property connected to crimes such as kidnapping, robbery, or murder will be demolished, and the owners prosecuted.
Local residents reportedly celebrated the demolition, seeing it as a step toward reclaiming their safety.
