An Ilesa Magistrate Court in Osun State has directed one Rhoda Adu to pay N150,000 in damages after she failed to visit her boyfriend, Olapitan Sola, despite receiving N3,000 for transportation.
According to court proceedings, Ms. Adu switched off her phone and did not show up after Mr. Olapitan sent her the money to cover travel expenses.
Frustrated by her unresponsiveness, Mr. Olapitan reported the matter to the Ayeso Police Station, claiming he felt defrauded and emotionally distressed.
Following her arrest, the court reviewed evidence submitted, including the N3,000 transfer and WhatsApp conversations between the pair.
Delivering judgment, Magistrate Akogun Oludare ordered Ms. Adu to refund the N3,000 and pay N100,000 for violating their agreement, along with an additional N50,000 in special damages for emotional distress caused to Mr. Olapitan.
The court emphasized that the ruling aims to serve as a deterrent to others who may consider engaging in similar conduct.
